Hancock River Fest

The Hancock Fire Company in conjunction with local businesses is sponsoring the First Hancock River Fest on August 9-11, 2012.  Various contests, competitions and demonstrations will be held.  We are asking businesses to sponsor a contest which is associated with that business.  Some businesses cannot connect to a contest so we have generic fun contests which they may select.  The only cost to the business would be a prize(s) from their store to the winner(s).

If the business does not want to be involved in a contest, they may pay a $50 fee to help the fire company with expenses.  In return, we will put a listing in a program we intend to have offering something about their business, or a special they may run for the festival.  If you want to be a festival co-sponsor, the fee is $500.  Your name will be featured on all publicity.

Most of these contests will occur along Main Street.  Some may be on the Western Maryland Rail-Trail, C & O Canal Towpath or Potomac River Boat Ramp.  Also demonstrations such as Water and Boat Safety, Green Recycling and others will take place there.

Vendors and crafters will be brought in to set up.  If a business is not going to use their sidewalks, we would set up a vendor there.  Vendors will be charged a fee to set up $50-$250.  Vendors will also be set up at other locations.

We are going to advertise a community yard sale.  Someone having a yard sale, can pay the fire company $20 to be included in a listing of addresses participating.

On Saturday, a Fireman’s Competition will be held in Widmeyer Park.  Fire Companies will compete in a variety of competitions. Food and fire related demo and flea market will be there.  In the evening, there will be other activities, concluding with a great fireworks display.
